Baby Stuffs

[other] baby on the way!

Well even though we're not going to begin the nursery for at least another month, we've got plenty of ideas for it brewing. I thought I'd share some of the items we have in mind for the little girl's room, as well as some other neat baby things we hope to acquire.

Bassinet from Bed, Bath, & Beyond. It easily converts to a carrier, bedside sleeper, & changing table. Plus it has soothing noises & a nightlight. Perfect! We have a nice, hefty store credit to blow there & this is one of the things we'll definitely be getting with it. It will be to keep in our bedroom and/or living room, so we liked these colors to match those rooms. EDIT: ORDERED! :)

We're not about to pay over $100 for a total unnecessary item (the baby's room is already carpeted). But if we can find a rug like this BB&B one for cheap, we'd love to get it because it's totally the look we're going for.

Changing table from Target. I don't necessarily have my heart 100% set on this one, but it's very pretty and basically what I have in mind. Plus I like that it has drawers so things can be hidden away when not in use.

Convertible crib from Target. Again this isn't a definite choice, but it's the style we want plus it converts into a toddler bed!

Bedding collection from Target. I haven't found any bedding sets that I've been blown away by, but I'm leaning towards this one. It's really simple (hopefully not to a boring extent) but I think it's just so darling and classic.

Ridiculously expensive lamp from Pottery Barn Kids that we would never dream of buying, but I don't think we'll have any trouble finding one that looks similar for way less money. EDIT: FOUND & BOUGHT CLOSE MATCH AT TARGET!

Light switch plate from Etsy. I found this yesterday and fell in love mostly because it has a Xander and a Cordy on it, hehe. It's made from vintage wallpaper, so cute. We'll have to wait & see if it will work with whatever bedding we select though.

A few months ago, I saw these baby bathtubs featured on The Today Show. I guess they've been all the rage in Europe so some smart lady decided to sell them here in the US. They're kinda weird on first look, but the more I read about them, the greater they seem. The baby feels comforted because it puts them in a position similar to being in the womb. Plus it uses less water and seems so much safer than a lot of other bathing options. Of course I want the the pink sparkley one!

Also yesterday I came across gDiapers. I'm totally in love with the concept - the outside is a washable fabric (but no annoying safety pins, etc). The inside is disposable! You can flush it or even throw it away where it will decompose in about 90 days instead of 500 years. Geoff was allergic to plastic diapers as a baby, so if that is hereditarily passed down to our little one, this would avoid that. Just seems like the totally genius and perfect way to go!

too. much. cuteness!!

thanks for sharing!

and of course I love all the stuff from Target! I KNOW you can find a lamp like that at Target, I used to have ones exactly like that before I lived with a straight boy and had an adorably decorated room! lol

my sisters HATED when people asked this when they were expecting, but I have to ask... Have you thought of names yet? I am so curious!

and wow, those Gdiapers sound amazing! that's very cool and very "green"

you also TOTALLY need a bumbo seat... it's so awesome for before they can sit up by themselves!

http://www.bumboseat.com/

i am sure you have heard of the boppy pillow already, those are VERY popular!

i am seriously SO excited for you! I can live vicariously through you since I am hoping to not be doing this for at least another 7-10 years! lol
(even though I probably always thought I would have like 10 kids by now! haha)

here's Andrew and Joseph (my twin nephews, they will be FOUR this weekend!!) in their bumbos :o)

Whoa awesome comment Robyn! You're so helpful! I don't mind people asking about names (that's totally to be expected). I just feel bad because we do have one picked out but we want to keep it underwraps until she arrives just in case!

Thanks for the bumbo seat link, I'd never heard of these! Your nephews look totally cute in theirs. I'll definitely be showing this to Geoff. I love the ones with the little trays, what an awesome idea!

I can understand wanting to keep it to yourself... With my niece Kaitlyn, my sister was fairly open about it, and especially her middle name Noelle, because she was due around xmas (born on 12/23)

with Andrew and Joseph it was a huge secret... their middle names are the grandfather's names, so that was to be a surprise! haha

one day I will tell you the story all about it (haha, it's a long story, they have 2 different b-days and one was natural, one c-section), but they are 12 hours apart, so my sister didn't want to announce the names until they were both born, by the time Joseph was born she was EXHAUSTED and so there was a little "naming announcement" set for the next day and we all came to the hospital and she told everyone at the same time (except her and I are super close and I can keep a secret so I was actually privy to the names before everyone else! haha) so for the first day of their lives though, they were known as baby A and baby B to the family!

oh, and I was at Target at lunch getting the boys their Cars and Wall-E sheets for their new big boy beds as a b-day present, and these lamps were on clearance for like $11.88!!

they aren't exactly the same, but you definitely shouldn't have trouble finding some at target and then getting a different shade to match what you want :o)

and sorry to be blowing up your post... lol, it's friday and i am in a good mood!

Oooh thanks for the lamp tip! You are my Target info go-to person for sure. We're on a bit of a spending freeze right now ... so we'll have to see. The base is so perfect though!

That's wild about the twins having different birthdays (although not in comparison to twins who have different dads, which is the case on Days of our Lives & I guess can actually happen in a one in a million chance, haha!)
[info]daisy_princess wrote:

Our Target didn't have this clearance lamb [EDIT: LAMP! hahaha] but we got one VERY similar to this base (like I'm almost wondering if it IS the same one!) and a pretty shade yesterday. Not on clearance, but still cheaper than Pottery Barn by like $50, lol.

woah, that tummy tub would have been SO useful for my mum when I was a baby. They had to set up a weird sort of tarpulin bath because I was too small to go in a real bath.

The convertible crib looks really nice too. Slats are always useful as my parents found out when I kept climbing out of my crib to the extent that they had to tie a badminton net over the top to stop me climbing out at night, haha! Those gdiapers look amazing as well.
Ooh, this is all exciting! I just love the style and pretty classicness of the pieces you and Geoff are going for!

Isn't the tub cool?! My mom used to just use the kitchen sink, haha. This seems so much better.

The thing about the badminton net cracked me up SO MUCH!!! I guess even as a baby you were eager to get out & have adventures, haha. Hilarious.

I have this really pretty old pink-framed Alice in Wonderland paper doll sheet that I've been hanging onto for the day I'd be able to have a baby girl nursery! We kind of started from there & branched out, themewise. We found a really cute piece of pink pottery at an antique shop that has a white rabbit on one side! It's exactly like this one, just with different images.

Ever since you announced you were pregnant, I've been eyeing up all the cute baby things over here. It's so adorable to see all the items you and Geoff are stockpiling/putting on a mental wishlist!

I think that's a marvellous idea to start from one 'themed' item and branch out from that. Missy's sister Kelly's Alice bookmarks artwork would go marvellous with the pale colours you've chosen!

I love the little Etsy lightswitch cover, such a unique item and so you!

Awww you're so sweet. Baby stuff is the cutest (especially for girls, hehe). We've been pretty modest in our spending for things for her so far, incredibly enough. We're getting a carseat/carrier from a friend, so that's one big purchase we won't have to worry about! :D

I'll try to remember to take a picture of the Alice paper doll tonight, you will love it.

my mom used to give me baths in the kitchen sink too! lol

also... Joseph was (IS) a big climber, so she had to put a tent thingy over his crib at one point because he would always climb out! too funny!

Ahhh, don't even get me started! lol! I STILL look at baby stuff & want to buy it, even though Oliver is basically a toddler!

We ALMOST got one of those baby tubs, but then I was reading everywhere that they outgrow them so quickly. He outgrew his regular tub pretty fast too. Bumbos are great. We had one for Oliver. I also like BeBePod infant seats.

Since I'm always on baby websites or etsy myself anyway, I've come across so many things that I've thought would be right up your alley, as far as your nursery & baby girl go...I guess this is my chance to share, hehe.

Love this crib set. Simple & elegant, but a bit decadent too:

& of course this breastfeeding pillow cover seemed right up your alley:

These Robeez:

How adorable!! Baby high-tops with "Love" on the side? gah! Just imagine a baby girl in those!

These Robeez are also pretty cute...

Someone on my Flickr has one of these mobiles & it looks amazing! & SO many people ask here where it's from:

Two people I know have this magnetic flower art. One in a nursery, one in a bedroom. Very versatile & might go in your white/pink nursery:

http://www.chiasso.com/store/item.aspx?ItemId=54783

If I would have discovered oobee's sooner, I would have bought one for Oliver FOR SURE. They're absolutely adorable, imo:

I LOVE Skip Hop stuff & they have some neato pink stuff, like this:

http://www.skiphop.com/product/29100.html

Okay, enough Anita! lol! I could go on & on! Can't wait to see the nursery, but more esp., your baby girl when she makes her arrival :)

Holy helpful! Leave it to you to come up with countless links to so much adorableness. I love your decorating eye, so it's great to get some tips from you. The mobile has especially caught my eye, so cool! Also, I think I made a mental note of those wall flowers in Dooce's nursery awhile back, thanks for letting me know where we can get them! They would look awesome if we paint the walls pink like we're planning on.

I knew you'd like the sweet pink bows on that bedding!

ALSO! i noticed someone above mentioned the bumbo seats? my sister who obviously has john & has worked in daycare for over ten years, is not crazy about them & neither am i. it's very stationary & the baby really has no freedom of movement. another alternative is boppy pillow. john LOVED his & so did nella! when he was first born & she was nursing him she used this in her arms & put him in it so it gave more support when she was holding him & it was comfortable for him! also, john was a big baby. he was 10 pounds when he was born so it helped nella with that. & he would take naps in it or on it when we were at friends houses or even if nella was doing something in the living room. or she would put him on his belly & he would play on it. & then when he got older it helped him sit up like the bumbo, but it didn't have that part between the legs so he could move more freely. here are some pictures to help illustrate my points;

i mean, it's your baby & you can do & get what you want but i'm just letting you know about this. i really feel like it's an amazing product & john loved his when he used it ♥.

also, not for nothing..i know i don't have a baby yet, but i've watched john almost every day since he was four months old so i think i know enough & if you have any questions or want opinions on anything you can ask ♥.

Awww look how tiny he was! :D

I just visited my sister's friend yesterday who has a newborn & he was kicking it on his boppy pillow. He looked so comfy and safe. I think it's a definite must have! Glad to hear you endorse it as well - your input is super helpful since you have way more baby-raising experience than me ;)

Bwahahahah! Perfect!

We were gifted a car seat/carrier this weekend & I set it on the floor for the kitties to sniff and get acquainted with. A friend used it for only about 10 months with her girl and there's a newborn boy in their house now as well, so it has a baby smell for sure. Cordy tried to get inside it but Xander was already all protective guardian and wouldn't let her in! So cute.

Tons of cute. I like that first crib. Ahh I've spent much more than $100 on a rug :( But I justify it with us having to have grey speckled industrial tile through out the whole house.
[info]daisy_princess wrote:

I think you are definitely justified in your rug spending! If we had wooden or tile floors in that room, then it would be an absolute must. But for now it'll just have to stay a maybe ;)
